Because of the geometric limitation of GPS observation path, it is difficult to solve the ill-posed inverse problem for the ionospheric electron density.
The wider enhancement structure in the limb count profile of the photographs would be attributed to the horizontally integrated observation path.
For selection and sorting according to GFP fluorescence, flies were kept anaesthetized under CO2 on a glass filter (Neolab) and observed using a MZ 12-5 Leica stereomicroscope mounted with a 10× objective and equipped with an epifluorescence device (illumination path: BP 480/40 nm, dichroic mirror/reflector: 505 nm, observation path: LP 510 nm).

Based on the LOS geometry between GPS satellites and ground-based GPS receivers, the synthetic TEC data are calculated by integrating the NeQuick electron density in each grid box along the GPS observation ray path.
An implicit assumption is that at the scale of observation the path of the contact front is linear.
