Unfortunately, small subcellular compartments such as oblique dendrites, dendritic tufts, dendritic spines, nodes of Ranvier and axon terminals are inaccessible for patch-pipette recordings, rendering their potassium currents enigmatic.
However, we were still unable to detect this subunit in other dendritic compartments (e.g. oblique dendrites and spines).
The floor of the larger compartment consisted of two oblique stainless-steel plates separated by 0.5 cm at the bottom and 10 cm at the top, through which scrambled constant current could be delivered.
We found that all individual compartments (basal, main trunk, obliques, and tuft) showed larger dendritic length for human L2 and L3 neurons compared with mouse neurons (basal, oblique and tuft: P < 0.0001, Mann Whitney, main trunk: P < 0.01, Mann Whitney, Fig. 6 D and Table 2).
A similar pattern was detected for all dendritic compartments, including main apical dendrites, small-diameter oblique dendrites and dendritic spines.
The inframesolic compartment is divided into two by the oblique orientation of the small bowel mesentery, where it attaches from the left upper quadrant at the ligament of Trietz to the right iliac fossa at the ileocaecal junction.
We addressed the issue quantitatively by counting the number of pixels in the border ROI preferring vertical (blue), left oblique (red), horizontal (yellow) and right oblique (green) contours (Fig. 3 B ). Pixels were joined in 4 angle compartments, centered on each of the stimulus orientations and spanning ±22.5° (Fig. 3 B,C ).
