Considering the role of nurses in healthcare, it is shocking that there is a lack of evaluations of nursing information systems in the literature.
In the following, we will focus on the results of the main questions that means on IT infrastructure, EPR, nursing information systems in use and the financial situation.
Against this background we conducted two surveys in Germany and Austria which used an identical questionnaire with eight clusters of questions covering the topics hospital demographics, IT infrastructure, EPR, nursing information systems in use and in planning, requirements of nursing information systems, financial situation, and access to the national eHealth infrastructure.
The hospital is the earliest adopter in implementing mobile healthcare technology, namely mobile nursing information systems, to provide nursing staff with a more efficient manner in obtaining required information from HISs in a timely manner by using a portable information device and wireless technology.
In the medium term, a uniform national monitoring and evaluation system should be developed, which includes indicators such as nurses' absenteeism rates and trends, and total number of hours worked by each nurse, through improved employer personnel or nursing council information systems.
The causes attributed to these symptoms include poor conceptualization of nursing performance, inadequate measures of nursing contribution, inadequate information systems to capture and manipulate nursing performance data, and absence of a standardized language [ 7, 8].
The key interventions include automatic national early warning score (NEWS) calculating information system, nurses and physicians computer-based reminding alarm if NEWS ≥ 7 or more than highest scores among previous 3 measurements, real time early warning screen saver and electric board, in service education and early warning monitor team.
