In the Nature Climate Change commentary, Wijffels says any drop in the number of deployments of floats could spell trouble.

"The findings from this study are not consistent with the assumption that specific deployment-related characteristics, such as length of deployment, number of deployments, or combat experiences, are directly associated with increased suicide risk," the authors, based at the Naval Health Research Center in San Diego, wrote.
"The number of deployments should equal the number of recoveries," Mr Singh says.
"It is not a surprise that the number of deployments has increased because the number of people with access to Tasers has increased in that time," she said.
Multiple logistic regression was used to determine which covariates (age, gender, number of deployments, and service duration) were predictors of latent class membership.
