The DIT theory by Gránásy was found to give the closest agreement to experiment after optimisation of the nucleus composition.
It is assumed that the nucleus composition can be derived from analysis of the measured coma fluxes as a function of the orbital position.
The results show that by optimising the nucleus composition all predictions were seen to lie much closer to the experimental results.
Nucleation of high number densities (Nv > 1023 m−3) of solute-rich precipitates (mean radius = 〈R〉 = 0.75 nm), with a critical nucleus composition of Ni-18.3 ± 0.9 Al-9.3 ± 0.7 Cr at.%, initiates between 0.0833 and 0.167 h.
The instrument is designed for the in situ chemical analysis of a cometary nucleus as the details of the nucleus composition are of primary importance for understanding both the formation of the solar system, and the origin of life on Earth.
