The endosperm was a syncytium, containing nuclei lining the entire peripheral cytoplasm, with a large central cavity.
The distal part of the C. elegans gonad is a non-cellularized syncytium where germ line nuclei divide, while in the proximal part cellularization and oocyte growth takes place [42].

A cytoplasmic immunoreactivity in the majority of cells was also revealed for all tumors with p16 INK4a transcriptional activation (fig. 3d,e,f) Tumors differed from each other by the number of stained nuclei like cell lines (from less than 1% to more than 25%).

A TUNEL assay (In situ cell death detection kit; Roche, Basel, Switzerland) revealed that most (71.4 to 75.0%) of the nuclei in cells of line C were apoptotic, while only a small percentage of the nuclei in cells of line D were apoptotic (1.3% to 5.4%), and the latter percentage did not differ significantly from that obtained with serum-starved control cells (4.1%, p<0.05, chi-square test).
In the long term, though, he and his colleagues hope to create ES cell lines using nuclei from patients who suffer from genetic diseases such as type I diabetes.
