Several noteworthy wines didn't make our top 10, including the Clos des Papes, which seemed bright and sunny but lacked a little structure, and the Deus-ex Machina from Clos St. Jean, an almost impossibly concentrated wine that was very pure with well-integrated oak but on this day didn't show much complexity.
Other noteworthy wines included the 2010 Tinto Tradicional from Tajinaste, on Tenerife, 100 percent listán negro, juicy and satisfying; the 2008 listán blanco from Carballo, an unusually rich and nutty wine; and the fresh, delicate 2008 red from Frontón de Oro, on the isle of Gran Canaria.
Finally, the complimentary triangles of warm focaccia here are noteworthy, the wine by the glass is modestly priced at $5, but cappuccino costs a stiff $4.25.
Grilled ratatouille ($5), a colorful plate of tomatoes, onions, peppers, artichokes, basil and yogurt sprinkled with toasted almonds, was a winner, as was a bountiful mixed green salad ($5) with a noteworthy port wine vinaigrette.
