Between now and the end of 2018, 115 of the German-built trains will be introduced on Govia's Thameslink and Northern services on routes as far out of London as Cambridge and Peterborough, as well as Brighton and Bedford – journeys that typically take well over an hour.
From 9 November until 6 December, 4% of Thameslink services were cancelled and 21.3% were delayed, while 2.9% of Great Northern services were cancelled and 16% were delayed, according to figures from Govia.
In the other direction, trains run hourly on the Stoke line and serves all stations except Longport (which is only served by a few Northern services).
In contrast, the creaking Northern Rail service gleaned around 40p per passenger mile.But it is not that singular.
