These results are consistent with the non-normalized set of data for these same experiments as both show the same trends in luciferase activities (compare Fig. 4 to supplementary material Fig. S4); this is an important observation as interference with the expression of the control reporter plasmid can result in biased interpretation of the normalized data (Vesuna et al., 2005).
