One characteristic of many studies subject to verification bias, particularly those based on screening studies, is that only a very small number of participants with normal diagnostic test results will subsequently receive the gold standard assessment, that is, the number of false negatives is very low.
Therefore, if clinical suspicion of MPS is high but the urinary GAG level is normal, additional diagnostic testing should be pursued (Fig. 4).
