Fourty games journalists were asked to nominate the games they were most looking forward to playing over Christmas 2010, and while Call of Duty: Black Ops heads the list, on the verge of its November 9 release, there's still room for Kirby's Epic Yarn on the Nintendo Wii down in 12th.
The Writers Guild of America nominated the game for its Outstanding Achievement in Video Game Writing recognition.
The newspaper also nominated the game for: Best Director (Sefton Hill); Best Acting Performance (Mark Hamill and Nolan North); and Best Developer Rocksteady Studioss).
GameTrailers additionally nominated the game for the Most Disappointing Game of 2010, but also praised the game for its wonderful graphics and gameplay.
The Game Critics Awards, selected by journalists and critics, awarded Portal 2 the title of Best PC Game and Best Action/Adventure Game, and nominated the game for Best of Show and Best Console Game.
IGN editors nominated the game for Best 3DS Game at their Best of E3 2011 Awards and later listed it as one of the 30 most anticipated games of 2012.
The Academy of Interactive Arts and Sciences awarded Rock Band with honors for three of the eight categories in which it was nominated; the game won awards for "Family Game of the Year", "Outstanding Achievement in Soundtrack", and "Outstanding Innovation in Gaming".
In recognition of its achievements, the magazine's editors and staff nominated the game for several awards in its first-ever Nintendo Power Awards for 1989 among them, "Best Graphics & Sound", "Best Play Control", and "Best Overall" —but the game did not win the top award in any of these categories.
The music was also nominated for the Game Audio Network Guild's "Music of the Year" award and won the "Best Interactive Score" award.
In 2012, at the British Academy Video Games Awards, Minecraft was nominated in the GAME Award of 2011 category and Notch received The Special Award.
