We calculated the root mean square (RMS) values of the 1.0 kHz octave band in the noise wave files using Matlab version 7.5 (the Mathworks, Inc).
To clearly map the deformation, I applied a Gaussian filter in order to model the long-wavelength noise (Additional file 1: Fig. S1b) and then subtracted the modeled noise from the original MAI result (Additional file 1: Fig. S1c).
In all, 45 households reported airport noise; seven filed 10 or more complaints.
Although the original MAI result suffers from serious long-wavelength noise (Additional file 1: Fig. S1a), there is a conspicuous phase change showing northward movement on the western side of the Hinagu fault zone.
For Sweden, there was a non-statistically significant association for NO2 which did not change after adjustment for road traffic noise (Additional file 1: Table S6).
We found a good, approximately linear relationship between log microarray fluorescence intensities and normalized RT-qPCR delta Ct values for medium to highly expressed genes, while at lower levels we generally observed overwhelming background noise (Additional File 1).
When analysing only one same sample at different coverages with the Qiagen panel on the MiSeq™ (Illumina) instead of the GS Junior (Roche), the same effect could be observed; an increase in the sequencing depth decreased the background noise (Additional file 7B).
