Recently, three NRT1/NPF family members (NPF5.11, NPF5.12 and NPF5.16) in Arabidopsis were reported to be localized at vacuolar membrane and to play a possible role in modulating nitrate allocation between roots and shoots (He et al. 2017).
Our study showed that over-expression of OsNPF7.2 enhanced the rate of NO3− influx into roots, increased NO3− concentration in root, and promoted the translocation of nitrate from roots to leaf sheath (Fig. 4a-c), indicating that elevated expression of OsNPF7.2 contributes to nitrate allocation between roots and shoots.
Nitrate allocation within the plants depends on the activity of various specific transporters [ 72, 73].
The closest Arabidopsis homologue to WC11 is At1g32450, which encodes a xylem nitrate-loading transporter that is involved in nitrate allocation to roots and responses to drought, salinity and cadmium stress (Chen et al. 2012).

The decrease in expression of several nitrate transporters indicated that also the allocation of nitrate to the shoot was negatively regulated in stressed leaves.
This paper examines the determinant factors influencing farmers' adoption of the EU-financed agri-environmental Nitrate Reduction Programme (NRP) in Greece and the extent of the programme's adoption, in terms of land allocation.
Nitrate contamination is a significant unresolved environmental issue for agriculture in the 21st century, with longstanding challenges in its control and allocation to a specified territory.
With soil depth, the contribution of organic N decreased (mineral topsoil: 77 92%; mineral subsoil: 60 77%), whereas contributions of both ammonium and nitrate increased (mineral topsoil: 7 19% ammonium, 1 8% nitrate; mineral subsoil: 15 39% ammonium, 1 15% nitrate), reflecting the increasing allocation of N to mineralization and nitrification.
