One of the picks of residential designer Erin admitson--who admito to a small bias toward towns with nice architecture--is about as picturesque as it gets: Union, Wash., located on the Puget Sound.
"We have nicer architecture.
One, the privately owned Indian Creek Hotel, is on 28th Street, about 10 blocks north of the upper limits of South Beach; the other, the Days Inn North Beach, is in an area around 74th Street that has many of the elements -- Deco architecture, nice beach, a waterfront city park -- that made South Beach so attractive 10 years ago.
As you go step by step, the architecture gets nice.
I, on the other hand, would rather go somewhere in Europe where I can drink nice wine, admire the architecture and visit a museum or two.
"It's fairly small, but it's a very nice piece of landscape architecture," Jarvi said.
They also serve a very elegant afternoon tea inspired by the artwork, and its location provides for a nice walk of Georgian architecture.
Set amid thousands of miles of the central Asian steppe, once a place of exile and hellish punishment for the likes of Dostoyevsky and Solzhenitsyn, religious leaders now fly into this Canary Wharf of a city, with its oil-boom show-off architecture, to talk nice and stay in nice hotels.
"Over time, we will have a nice blend of some architectures that remain front-wheel drive and others that go rear-wheel drive," he added.
Luckily, Ms. Craven said, "architecture is a nice, broad topic".
