A third group took a model of honeybee nest selection (Britton et al., 2002) that explored how honeybees select between two nests and added new equations to explore how honeybee behavior changed if the honeybees needed to select among three nests.
We investigated whether heterogeneity in nest curtain appearance – via colours and symbols – would influence nest selection and result in an even distribution of eggs among nests.
Our results illustrated that our metrics were primarily measured on the same domain of scale indicated by minimal differences in the mean and variation of each metric across scales (Fig. 1), which provides support for why our landscape-level metrics may not have influenced turkey nest selection.

We describe the mean physical characteristics of trees selected for nesting, quantify nesting habitat selection at two scales (nest tree and nesting stand), and identify quantitative targets for forest managers to select types and amounts of retention structures that will offer optimal resources to cavity nesting birds and dead wood associated species in managed boreal landscapes.
Depending on the scale of investigation, dominant breeding season behavioral modes of sage-grouse might include pre-nesting behavior such as lek attendance, nest-site selection, nesting off-bout behavior, and between-versus within-patch movement of the brooded female (Aldridge and Brigham 2002; Aldridge and Boyce 2007; Doherty et al. 2010; Dzialak et al. 2011b).
Many of the mechanisms proposed to drive egg colour diversity are associated with traits that are themselves labile at the species level, such as habitat use, nest site selection, sexual selection, brood parasitism, and predation pressure [21].
Lehman et al. (2008) evaluated the effects of multiple spatial scales on turkey nest site selection and survival and found that successful turkey nests were located in larger land cover patches that contained greater visual obstruction surrounding the nest site.
Therefore, we suggest future turkey nest site selection and survival studies should primarily focus on smaller spatial scales surrounding the nest site as suggested by Conley et al. (2015).
Lehman et al. (2008) evaluated Merriam's turkey (Meleagris gallopavo merriami) nest site selection and survival in South Dakota as a function of multiple habitat components collected at multiple spatial scales.
Using a GLM, we assessed the influence of all covariates in a full nest site selection model simultaneously on nest site selection.
Collective decision and nest site selection Passino [64] established a mathematical model of the nest site selection process of honey bee swarms and highlighted the potential implications of the dynamics of swarm decision making.
