Respondents gave their answers according to a 5-grade scale: 1 – strongly disagree, 2 – disagree, 3 – neither yes, nor no, 4 – agree, and 5 – strongly agree.
The respective items were scored on a 5-point scale from disagreement to agreement (0 - does not apply at all; 1 - does not truly apply; 2 - don't know (neither yes nor no); 3 - applies quite a bit; 4 - applies very much).
India is known its head wobble or headshake, a gesture that ambiguously says neither yes nor no, but is often a polite way of avoiding overt refusal.
