The goal of MET is to choose the combining weights such as to maximize the gain of the effective user channel, neglecting interference between users.
In dense networks of this paper, the influence of noise can be neglected, namely, interference-limited network.
Such a set-up allows for the investigation of channel tracking, channel estimation [44], synchronization [11, 49], MIMO gains, AMC and feedback optimization [13], receiver structures [14] (neglecting interference and impact of the scheduling,a modeling of channel encoding and decoding [15, 50], and physical layer modeling [51], which can be used for system level abstraction of the physical layer.
However, [11, 12] considered only dual-hop transmission and [11 13] neglected either noise or interference at each node for analytical tractability.
Therefore, a more precise approach must be adopted for neglecting the interference.
However, the proposed channel estimation algorithm neglects the interference from the data symbols.
Note that we neglect potential interference from other BSs and leave the multi-cell case for future work.
