The only notable job growth within the news industry was recorded in the digital-native sector which saw newsroom staff levels rise 79% from 7,000 in 2008 to 13,000 by 2017.

In addition, the proportion of immigrants employed in jobs with less-desirable working conditions is higher than that of natives in each sector.
The wider economic impacts of high skilled migrants are still poorly understood, and future research needs to plug a number of important gaps – not least, the distributional impacts of skilled migrants on different native workers and sectors (Collier 2013).
The main findings are: i) the old determine any majority voting outcome of non-zero immigration into both sectors; ii) socially optimal immigration is smaller than or equal to the majority voting outcome; and iii) immigration is not necessarily a substitute for native mobility across sectors.
