Crocidura hirta forms a highly supported clade that is reciprocally monophyletic with C. flavescens.
We therefore show the constrained, mutually monophyletic tree (Fig. 1).
Therefore, we again represent the genealogy as the most likely mutually monophyletic species tree (Fig. 2).
A tree search constrained to be mutually monophyletic between the two species is strongly rejected (ΔlogL = 133.24, P < 0.001).
*BEAST and BPP3 analysis used individuals from the same mountain block as discrete units (after confirmation of monophyly from individual-based tree constructions) with the exception of a single unit containing individuals from the East Usambara Mountains and Nguru Mountains which were not mutually monophyletic.
(iii) The sum of morphological, anatomical, molecular, and fossil evidence supports modern Osmunda (including Osmundastrum ) and Todea-Leptopteris being mutually monophyletic.
Whether H. melpomene and H. cydno are mutually monophyletic is therefore no longer even a sensible question at the species level – the answer depends in which part of the genome we are interested.
Several groups of Ci haplotypes from French Guiana H. melpomene melpomene form distinct clades, but overall there is strong evidence against mutually monophyletic separation between cydno and melpomene (Fig. 4, ΔlogL = 130.63, P < 0.001).
clade (Fig. 11), then all fossil and extant species of modern Osmundaceae can be resolved in three mutually monophyletic genera: Todea, Leptopteris, and Osmunda, the last of these including the subgenera Plenasium, Osmunda, Claytosmunda, and Osmundastrum (Fig. 12).
Data so far suggest that it is monophyletic with its primary distribution in the northern hemisphere.
