Immunohistochemistry (Figure 8A), focalized on inflammatory infiltrates, showed that in all 3 patients, CD4 T cells were most prevalent, again mutually exclusive with CD8 staining (Figure 8B and C).
This is consistent with mutually exclusive patterns of positive staining for GLUT1 and Nuc-pYStat5 at the global tumor level.
As can be seen in Fig. 5B, C, the two probes stain mutually exclusive cell populations, indicating that Amlipase and AmSoxC are not co-expressed.
However, ER and SOX2 staining were mutually exclusive, which is in agreement with an indirect effect of E2 on sphere-forming ability and on SOX2-positive cell proliferation.
Examination of stained muscle tissue sections confirmed that the 2 antibodies stained essentially mutually exclusive populations of muscle fibers.
Anti-SV40 antibody, which stained tumor cells only, and anti-cathepsin antibody staining patterns were mutually exclusive, indicating that cathepsin-positive cells within the stroma were not tumor cells that had detached and migrated away from the primary mass (Figure 2E G).
