The gyrA and parC mutations of isolates from the first 2 patients were reported in ciprofloxacin-resistant S. enterica serotype Typhi in India (11 ).
Finally, in the Rice yellow mottle virus (RYMV), it has been demonstrated that the different resistance-breaking mutations of isolates from different cultivars or species cannot be explained by a classical arms race between host and pathogen but result from epistasis between a previously polymorphic site and the site conferring the resistance breaking phenotype [ 23].
However, the indistinguishable PFGE XbaI and BlnI patterns and identical gyrA and parC mutations of isolates from the first 2 patients suggest that, although typhoid fever occurred nearly 2 years apart, the same ciprofloxacin-resistant strain is likely to have been involved.
To assess the distribution of isolated mutations, we obtained a dataset largely devoid of kataegic mutations by expressing the deaminases in ungΔ cells.
In the year 2000, two studies, Wilkie et al. [ 5] and Yokoyama et al. [ 10], introduced these mutations into the sequence of isolated SWS1 opsin gene from budgerigar Melopsittacus undulatus and zebra finch Taeniopygia guttata.
These constraints on cellular organization and morphology likely apply across many environmental conditions, preventing accumulation of relevant loss of function mutations in isolated subpopulations.
Our report confirms PET100 mutation as an important cause of isolated complex IV deficiency outside of the Lebanese population, extending the phenotypic spectrum associated with abnormalities within this gene.
We believe that CCH should be considered in the investigation of inherited diseases where phenocopies are suspected, and may be especially powerful in detecting the location of founder mutations within isolated populations.
The intensity of binding to these was enhanced with mutant viruses (D222G mutation of hemagglutinin) isolated from cases of severe or fatal pdm virus infection: with the D222G mutant pdm viruses there was binding also to nonsulfated internally fucosylated (VIM-2 antigen-bearing) sequences of the type expressed on ciliated cells of the bronchus (Fig. 6).
The finding that most of the mutations isolated were loss-of-function alleles of an R gene is consistent with previous reports of screens for disease resistance mutations in Arabidopsis [ 38- 40], tomato [ 41], and barley [ 42, 43].
