Over half of the biofilm defective mutants expressed high levels of extracellular protease activity, and a significant portion of the mutant pool either overproduced nuclease or had altered cell lysis phenotypes, indicating a major biofilm role for proteins and eDNA in the absence of exopolysaccharide.
In addition, ecdysone signaling mutant ECs express higher amounts of cell adhesion molecules, e.g. DE-Cad and Arm (Fig. 2L,M; supplementary material Fig. S4), which is consistent with the alteration of their epithelial status.
