At multivariate analysis, extended lymph node dissection appeared an independent prognostic factor for DFS (HR=0.52, CI 0.36 0.74, P=0.0003), which was also influenced by extension within the gastric wall (pT2 vs pT3; HR=0.41, CI 0.26 0.63, P=0.0001) and nodal involvement (N0 vs N+; HR=0.33, CI 0.21 0.52, P=0.0001).
