Thus, we conclude that there is no evidence for multiple species involved in the formation of the discovered cline, and that its origin is very recent.
Predictions about the future risk of spread of Lyme disease in Southern Québec should consider the potential for evolutionary change in the multiple species involved in the transmission of B. burgdorferi, and how evolution can alter the consequences of shifts in distributions of these species in response to environmental changes on disease occurrence (e.g., Hendry et al. 2011; Lankau et al. 2011).
