I am less interested in whether feminists choose to use the word or replace it with (no less academic) phrases such as multiple oppressions.
It reflects the fact that we do not all navigate the world in the same way, and asks us to recognise that people can experience multiple oppressions, which intersect in powerful ways: I am a woman, for example, but I am also black and I have a visual disability.
