Among the many advantages of high-throughput NGS, SVs of all types and sizes can theoretically be detected, breakpoints can be mapped with high resolution, down to the basepair level in some instances, and complex rearrangements can be characterised with the possibility to study multiple breakpoints in a single experiment.
