Grassland biomes occur naturally worldwide with an estimated 1.5 million square kilometers in North America alone.
For example, in China in the mid-latitudes (30 – 40°N), at the last glacial maximum (LGM, ~20 kya), significant southward and eastward extension of steppe and desert biomes occurred.
During the Holocene, steppe biomes occurred recurrently [ 54, 55], coinciding with major dry events leading up to glacial conditions at different time intervals: ~ 11.000-9.500 years BP, ~ 8000-7000 years BP and 4000-3000 years BP [ 54, 56].
Only haplotypes from the desert biome and populations occurring in regions where multiple biomes are connected formed discrete clusters (Additional file 5: Figure S3).
Instead we found that bats in the Desert Biome used significantly lower frequencies than those occupying Forest and areas of transition between multiple biomes.
The species inhabits multiple biomes which include deserts, dry and humid tropical forests, and deciduous temperate forests.
Also, bats inhabiting the Forest Biome or regions comprised of multiple biomes use significantly higher frequencies (Table 3) because long range detection is not an advantage in such habitats.
Here, we report how a species distributed across multiple biomes and biogeographic regions of North America responded to the climatic oscillations of the Pleistocene.
This world has it all: multiple biomes, several temples, various scattered villages, mineral wealth, and even a few libraries.
The mediterranean biome occurs in California and Mexico, Chile, South Africa, Australia, and the entire Mediterranean Basin including northern Africa and the Near East, spanning a broad social, political, and economic spectrum (Fig. 1).
