On the basis of data from the national COPD resources and outcomes project, we determined that we would be able to complete 30 peer review visits during the lifetime of the project thus allowing 30 lung cancer multidisciplinary teams (15 pairs) to be randomised into the intervention arm.
The method of pairing multidisciplinary teams was important.
