In the GreenMap framework, one probabilistic, heuristic algorithm is designed for the optimization problem: mapping VMs onto a set of physical machines (PMs) under the constraint of multi-dimensional resource consumptions.
On one hand, in order to ensure the user experience of resource requesting, the system has to achieve fast resource allocation to timely process resource requests; on the other hand, in order to ensure the efficiency of resource allocation, how to allocate multi-dimensional resource requests to servers needs to be optimized, such that server's resource utilization can be improved.
Such a multi-dimensional resource allocation problem can be solved by using the resource pooling-based centralized RRM scheme [9].
They introduced skewness as a metric to measure unevenness for multi-dimensional resource utilization of a server.
