MRSA can be shed from infected patients on to surfaces, or via mucosal discharges (leading to airborne dispersal).
Intraorally, exposed necrotic alveolar bone surrounding the left mandibular dental implants associated with mucosal inflammation and purulent discharge was observed (Fig. 1).
During the observation period, episodes of sickness including respiratory symptoms (mild dyspnea, conjunctival, and nasal discharge), oral mucosal lesions, and diarrhea were observed in cats in both groups in the animal shelter and in the quarantine station.
Clinical examination revealed an intraoral fistula on the lingual side of the dental implant replacing the right mandibular first molar, associated with mucosal inflammation and a purulent discharge (Fig. 1a, b).

The gram negative, nonmotile B. mallei bacillus is the causative agent of glanders, a disease that can be transmitted to humans upon cutaneous, mucosal or aerosol exposure to mucopurulent discharge from the eyes, nose and lips of infected solipeds [1].
All were classified as minor complications, as depicted in Figure 1, and most involved only abdominal discomfort and minimal small bowel mucosal trauma, allowing the patients to be discharged on the same day.
Microbial products and inflammatory cytokines stimulate increased production of mucins by mucosal epithelial cells, which can effect a massive discharge of mucin in response to stimuli [10], [11], [12], [13], [14], [15], [16], [17], [18], [19], [20], [21].
For patients 5 and 4, whose initial results were negative, serologic test results became positive at the subsequent week of testing (weeks 7 and 8, respectively) SARS-CoV detected in mucosal secretions or excreta will affect decisions about discharging patients.
Third, one may speculate that the intestinal contents via the discharge of hormones from enteroendocrine cells activate mucosal afferents to increase epithelial cell renewal.
