Although these half-lives cannot be directly compared to the three compartment analysis for the rat data, they do show a similar rapid initial distribution phase and a much longer elimination phase.
In addition, one can ask whether endogenous sugars fulfill the same role in species that undergo a much longer juvenile phase than Arabidopsis, such as trees and other perennial woody plants, where vegetative phase change occurs after months or even years.
These and many other cases of reductive evolution are consistent with a general model composed of two distinct evolutionary phases: the short, explosive, innovation phase that leads to an abrupt increase in genome complexity, followed by a much longer reductive phase, which encompasses either a neutral ratchet of genetic material loss or adaptive genome streamlining.
But for somatic cells, with a much longer S phase driven by a replication timing programme and active checkpoint responses to delay entry into S phase, this might not pose a potential threat.
A much longer lag phase, around 100 h, for growth on vanillin (Fig. 2) and no growth on syringate for 200 h, was observed.

The OD620 was measured every 15 minutes for 24 hours and the results are shown in Figure 2. In terms of growth rate (μ = (lnN−lnN0)/(t−t0)), a significant difference between strains 50-wt and 50 64 (P<0.05) was of note with the latter clearly showing a much longer lag-phase until the OD significantly increases.
However, different from intense storms, nearly 40% of storms with Dst above −100 nT could be resulted by CIRs, thus possessing a much longer storm main phase.
This requirement obviously will translate into much larger and longer phase 3 clinical development programs.
