In a normal mitotic cell HURP localized predominantly to the MT fiber anchored at the KT in the vicinity of chromosomes, (Figure 5B, vector).
Interestingly, side-on interactions in vector cells were characterized by being localized close to the end of the MT fiber, as the KT had already been moved toward the MT plus-end during the MG132 time (inset 3); in EGFP-Hec1 prometaphases a large part of side-on interactions were lateral interactions with the MT wall on a continuing MT (inset 6).

We also characterize their intercellular relationships, and identify important ultrastructural features including MTs, fibers, vesicles, and junctions.
K-fibers in cells expressing GFP-TACC3 had more MTs per fiber, and the cross-sectional area that those MTs occupied was larger, compared to fibers in control uninduced HeLa cells.
More MTs per fiber might push up the volume of mesh, but the closer proximity of MTs limits the space available for mesh to be present.
In Chlamydomonas, two BBs, along with two probasal bodies and an array of MTs and fibers, form a complex called the basal apparatus that apposes the bases of the two flagella (Dutcher, 2003; Geimer and Melkonian, 2004).
It seems counterintuitive that overexpression of a mesh component results in skewed MTs; shouldn't it make the MTs in the fiber 'more parallel'?
The La values of the carbon fibers, MT and HT pyrolytic carbon increased after the heat treatment, and the La value of the HT pyrolytic carbon had a much larger increase than that of the others.
(D ) Illustration of the deviation of MTs from the fiber axis caused by TACC3 overexpression.
Overexpression of TACC3 alters the mesh and changes the trajectory of MTs within the fiber, indicating that the mesh is a determinant of K-fiber structural integrity.
This makes sense structurally, but there is a possibility that the mesh is passive and simply connects MTs in the fiber, wherever they may be.
