In the subitizing range, children's RT decreased an average of nearly 300 msec in the second session relative to the first, and the RT analysis showed significant main effects of session (F 1,7) = 19.1, p = 0.003), and of numerosity (F 2,14) = 6.18, p = 0.01).
This possibility, however, is discounted by the fact that the very time window across which the somatotopic effect is observed (200 to 800 msec after the first vibration) corresponds to the time course of "inhibition of return" effects – people are slower at detecting a tactile signal if it is preceded by an ipsilateral cue rather than a contralateral one [eg], [21, 22].
During all cases of concurrent stimulus delivery, the concurrent stimulus was delivered for a minimum of 400 msec before the first of the two pulses was delivered and lasted for the entire duration of the allotted interval (1 sec) with the exception of the two 40 ms intervals during which the 1 mm pulses were being delivered.
The pulse stimulus trace consisted of 5 pulses (5 msec/pulse) with 500 Hz carrier frequency at 35 msec intervals, with the first pulse initiating at 15 msec.
The "waggle dance" stimulus trace consisted of 4 pulses (20 msec/pulse) of a 265 Hz sine wave at 34 msec intervals, with the first pulse initiating at 21 msec.
This was followed by the second 33 msec.
Participants who first read sentences in the 250 msec SOA block showed no effect of semantic similarity for this SOA, although these same participants showed the effect in the second block with 500 msec SOA.
For the condition with 3 Hz movements with 2 Hz beat, the synchronization error was −13.9 msec, −18.5 msec, and −19.8 ms for the first, second and third movements, respectively.
In the second time period identified by the PCA that occurred from 132 msec to 268 msec, babies born to nonsmoking mothers continued to discriminate between speech syllables, whereas infants born to smoking mothers just began to generate ERPs that discriminated between a few of the speech sounds.
First, this method is limited to an imaging sequence consisting of 6 snapshots spaced 17 msec apart, for a total observation time of about 100 msec; and second, it is uncertain whether there is sufficient detail to examine the dynamic activity in the smallest capillaries.
