The world has moved on; technology has moved on; geopolitics have moved on; the people who make decisions have moved on.
Now Amazon has approval, the technology should move on quickly.
"We're seeing corporate budgets stabilize, and with greater clarity on budgets, companies are able to plan better and move ahead on technology projects," said Peter Sondergaard, senior vice president for research at Gartner.
JPMorgan suggests a classic recovery strategy for investors: Buy the sectors that will lead the market out, starting with financials, where the mess began, and then moving in on technology and biotech along with consumer discretionary stocks.
Mr. Heins moved on to become chief technology officer of the communications unit and in 2005 the handset business was sold to BenQ, a Taiwanese electronics maker.
But its importance can be judged by the fact that its founder, Robert Stephens, who sold to Best Buy nearly a decade ago, has moved on to become chief technology officer at the retail parent.
"It makes a mockery of the Nagoya protocol if the technology has moved on," says Jim Thomas, program director of ETC Group in Montreal, Canada, a nonprofit that monitors the impacts of new technologies on poor countries and communities.
But technology has moved on since then.
While custom and technology have moved on, Italy's central bank has stood still.
"The pure fascination with technology is moving on," Mr. Lindfors said.
