When this information did not exist, we used the mouse protein sequence of the identified gene for a translated BLAST (tblastn), or the nucleotide sequence of the cDNA fragment or the GenBank accession number of the corresponding gene for a blastn on the human genome.
By examining the number of single-copy orthologs identified from comparing translated coding sequences (CDS) of the guppy against other teleost, human, and mouse protein sequence databases, we identified a greater number of orthologs in the genome-guided assembly than in the genome-independent assembly.
