Measures of epithelial mucin stores were made using the technique applied to approximately 250 random sections per mouse (40× magnification) of mouse lung stained with PAS.
Peribronchial fibrosis measures were made using the technique applied to 100 random sections per mouse (60× magnification) of mouse lung stained with Sirius red.
To quantify, cleaved caspase 3 -positive cells were counted in 10 randomly selected fields per mouse liver (200× magnification) by an investigator unaware of the genotype.
