The main activities will comprise nature walks, bird watching, camping and mountain biking along with awareness raising of mountain issues.
As one of the most important objectives of the IYM will be to raise awareness on mountain issues, the IYM coordination unit has prepared its communications plan.
Designed to provide guidance to governments and others involved with mountain issues, the ultimate goal is to improve the livelihoods of mountain people, protect mountain ecosystems and use mountain resources more wisely.
In some countries, these committees provide an institutional setting that would allow, for the first time, different interest groups and stakeholders involved in mountain issues to come together and consider discussing these issues in a coherent and integrated manner.
The newsletter will be sent out on a monthly basis to a wide variety of organizations and individuals interested and involved in mountain issues and the IYM in particular.
The Bishkek Global Mountain Summit, the culminating global event of the IYM, proved to be the largest-ever gathering of governments, international organizations, non-governmental organizations and individuals concerned with mountain issues, with over 600 people from 60 countries in attendance.
An eminent person, who has vast experience and contributed immensely on mountain issues in general and Himachal Himalaya will be invited to deliver key note address on the 2018 theme "#MountainsMatter".The keynote address will be followed by deliberations and discussions by the scientists, officers, researchers and the staff members of the Institute.
