Although Mackay et al. [ 37] found that a distributed practice within one day can lead to a higher performance in the acquisition of a fine motor skill, most other studies investigating the distribution of practice effect were using a design in which training was distributed over several days [ 36, 39].
Our laboratory approach was based on similar experiments in which the acquisition of perceptual or motor skills was studied (in humans or animals) [12 14, 48 50 55 56].
