In the MOH + CM group, decreased functional connectivity of MrD was demonstrated in the bilateral medial superior frontal gyrus, left precentral gyrus, and supplementary motor area compared with the EM group (Fig. 3).
HIV+ subjects were impaired for all cognitive-motor ability areas compared with matched, uninfected control subjects.
Power elicited even stronger increases in motor areas as compared with Joy, consistent with the fact that this emotion may enhance the propensity to strike the beat, as when hand clapping or marching synchronously with the music, for example.
Main finding of our study is the in vivo evidence for differential tissue properties within the STN consistent with lower myelin and higher iron content in limbic areas compared with motor and associative functional regions, which is in line with previous imaging and postmortem studies [ Dormont et al., 2004; Massey et al., 2012; Schäfer et al., 2012].
Interestingly, the interspike interval was longer in the putative motor area as compared to the limbic/associative subdivision of the STN (Welter et al. 2011).
Statistical evaluation was performed using a Student's t-test to assess a significance of differences and the reliability of localising the motor hand area comparing MRI and fMRI data.
Are there more powerful connections between the relevant brain systems (including perisylvian, visual and motor areas) in humans compared with their monkey relatives (for recent positive evidence, see Rilling 2014)?
For example, Schroder et al. [56] found that there were significant reductions in brain activation in the sensorimotor cortex and supplementary motor areas in schizophrenia as compared to healthy controls while they were performing a diadochokinesia like task (pronation/supination).
In subgroup comparisons, patients with right limb-onset showed decreased GM volume in the bilateral precentral gyri, left superior frontal gyri, supplementary motor areas, and postcentral gyri compared with normal controls (P < 0.001, uncorrected) (Table 6 and Figure 2).
Here we have shown that SOD1 levels in motor areas are only intermediately high compared to other gray matter areas (Table S1).
