Previously, we have shown by strand specific RT-PCR that most DXZ4 transcript originates from one strand of DXZ4 with low levels of anti-sense transcript only observed in female samples [4].
There were 2865 components containing no transcripts and 10 611 components, each of which contained at most 5 transcripts, together containing most of the transcripts (16 663).
The corresponding figures for the gonococcus are that at most 14 transcripts are induced by FNR, and 6 are repressed.
However, for the other components, IDBA-Tran did a good job: 6353 components, each of which contained at most 5 transcripts, contained 9082 transcripts all together.
