The ORs for sensitization to the four most common sensitizing allergens, i.e. birch, timothy, cat and dog at the age of 8 years differ considerably after adjustment of each single allergens as well as fx5® at 4 years.
The most common allergic sensitizations were to German cockroach (31%) and mixed tree pollen (19%).
Ear piercing is the most common cause of sensitization, and thus represents a strong risk factor for nickel allergy, even in men.
Reviews of allergen sensitization conducted in geographically diverse areas suggest the most common causes of fungal sensitization in populations are Aspergillus, Alternaria and Cladosporium spp. These genera together with Penicillium are frequently among the most common fungi encountered in surveys of airborne fungi in indoor and outdoor environments worldwide [ 21- 26].
Sensitization was most common for allergens Dermatophagoides pteronyssinus (21.7%), grass pollen (16.9%) and cat (8.8%) [3].
The most common form of OAS develops with sensitization to the major birch pollen allergen, Bet v 1.
Allergic asthma is the most common form of asthma, caused by sensitization and exposure via the airways to a number of innocuous allergens including proteins from house dust mites, animals, moulds and tree and grass pollens.
When analysing sensitization at 4 years to the four most common food allergens (egg, milk, wheat and peanut) only sensitization to peanut at 4 years of age was significantly associated with an increased risk of allergen-specific IgE-ab to timothy and dog at 8 years.
In urban zones of Colombia, asthma is the most common chronic disease in children and IgE sensitization to mites is a hallmark in most patients [ 11- 13].
We further analysed sensitization to inhalant and food allergens at 4 years of age and the risk for persistent or onset of sensitization to the four most common inhalant allergens (birch, timothy, cat and dog) at 8 years of age.
