In prosimians (the most ancestral group of primates) sociality is the exception more than the rule.
Phylogenetic analysis showed that among the three clades made up of NDA, NDB and NDC proteins, NDC is the most ancestral group and branched out early in evolution.
Two groups, represented by P. falciparum PfSERA6 and PfSERA7, respectively, are expressed in asexual parasites, whereas the third and most ancestral group, represented by PfSERA8, is not (Aoki et al., 2002; Miller et al., 2002).

While little is known about the eyes of the most ancestral strepsipteran groups, the most ancestral living group of Strepsiptera, the Mengenillidae, is indeed nocturnal (Pohl 2002).
cpGroup I haplotypes were found in 87.5 % of cultivated japonica cultivars and 58.8 % of W6 accessions, the most closely related ancestral group, while cpGroup VIII haplotypes were found in 77.8 % of cultivated indica, 80%% of cultivated aus cultivars, and only 47.6 and 48.4 % of the related W1 and W4 accessions, respectively.
For both datasets, the AU test revealed that the maximum likelihood phylogenies placing Isodiametra pulchra as most ancestral taxon, sister group to all remaining bilaterians (Fig. 1, Fig S1), was significantly better based on the available data (p>0.01) compared to trees in which the monophyly of the Platyhelminthes was enforced (Table S4).
Here, the Astatoreochromis-lineage was resolved as most ancestral lineage, and as sister group to a clade comprised by the Pseudocrenilabrus- and the CSA lineage, and the modern haplochromines.
Our tree is simply an 'all the evidence' super-tree which at the very least tells us that overlapping genes have been around as long as some of the most ancestral clades in the prokaryotic group.
The latter bears the most ancestral traits, so it is often considered a sister group or stem group of the other adapiforms.
Group 2, presumably the most "ancestral", contains 100% of N. aberrans, 75% of R. reniformis, 40% of G. rostochiensis, and just 3.4% of G. pallida 4D06-like sequences.
