Second, there are counter-transitions: the shift from high mortality to high morbidity occurs not only for degenerative diseases but also for infectious diseases as in some developing countries (e.g. case for HIV/AIDS where morbidity rates are increasingly higher than mortality rates as treatment become available to a greater proportion of the population).
The second phenomenon was a wave of moderate mortality rates that occurred not in the spring of 1918, but in the summer (July August), mostly in a few countries in northern Europe.
