These thresholds rely on observed values (see Fig. 1), and they imply a mortality decline for all ages at a minimum of 0.5% and at a maximum of 3.5%.
Each model-based change scenario was used to simulate a schedule of mortality decline for 111 years (for comparability with the Swedish data for 1900 2010).

While literature is replete with the explanatory factors responsible for infant mortality decline in Kenya prior to the late 1980s, very little is known regarding the factors behind the upsurge in infant mortality during the 1988–2003 period [ 1, 4, 5].
