In the late 1990s, colony-forming and plastic-adherent cells with fibroblast-like morphology isolated from human bone marrow (BM) were expanded in vitro and differentiated through mesodermal lineages such as osteoblasts, chondroblasts and adipoblasts [ 2, 3].
