The aim of the present work is the investigation in-vitro of the fluid dynamic modifications occurring as a consequence of the morphological changes typically induced in the aortic root by MS. A mock-loop reproducing the left ventricle outflow tract and the aortic root was used to measure time resolved velocity maps on a longitudinal symmetry plane of the aortic root.
These are the morphological changes typically seen in apoptosis [ 9, 34].

Quantification of morphological change typically consists of assessing individual markers at discrete intervals.
Apoptosis and necroptosis differ in that the former refers to a series of morphological and biochemical changes, typically involving caspase activation, nuclear condensation and membrane blebbing, while the latter describes a form of unprogrammed cell death that does not involve caspases, and that is frequently associated with activation of the tissue necrosis factor-α receptor (TNFR).
Since such morphological changes in epithelial cells are typically associated with down-regulation of E-cadherin, immunoblot (IB) analysis of the E-cadherin protein levels were performed [ 31].
Morphological changes characteristic of excitotoxicity and typically preceding death, such as dendritic focal swelling and the formation of varicosities, were found in stimulated neurons.
Proliferation inhibition was typically accompanied by morphological changes suggestive of cell demise (data not shown).
Some drawbacks of reconstructed skin models relate to their highly permeable skin barrier compared to normal skin and the morphological changes and decrease in epidermal layers typically seen during prolonged culture and upon repeated topical application of vehicles.
Blebbistatin pre-treatment induced substantial morphological changes of the growth cone, which continued to move forward in a rather disorganized fashion, typically transforming the growth cone lamellipodia into several dynamically advancing filopodia, as reported previously (Rosner et al., 2007).
The ultra-thin metal coatings were typically applied at an optimal thickness of approximately 7 to 8 nm, as thicker films could make substantial morphological changes to dp or alter and/or completely diminish the interference spectrum.
