Laser scanning cytometry (LSC) is a method which combines the efficiency and precision of flow cytometry with the morphological characterization ability of a microscope-based imaging system (Kamentsky and Kamentsky 1991; Kamentsky et al. 1997; Taatjes et al. 2001; Pozarowski et al. 2006).
Unfortunately, glycerid species share a rather uniform morphology, thereby hampering the ability of morphological studies to distinguish different morphological characters resulting mostly in low node support (Böggemann 2002).
