There are other efforts being made to also help form more useful patent methodology, such as the combined effort of StackExchange and the USTPO to crowdsource prior art that can be used to determine the validity of patents.
Therefore, it appears to be more useful to assess the methodology used to derive a proper heat transfer correlation than to assess the form of the heat transfer correlation itself, as the correlation often cannot be transferred to other heat exchangers, even those that belong to the same class.
