4– 6 Reports from general population surveys assess higher sample numbers and may be more reflective of overall prevalence, whereas reports from dermatology clinics represent a more select population and yield smaller prevalence ranges.
The RCT enrolled a more selected population.
The performance of the two risk tools in a much more selected population was evaluated.
The mean SPPB score in our cohort (7.8, SD 3.9) was lower than among FHN participants (8.5) who may have been a healthier, more selected population.
The exclusion of patients with alcohol consumption greater than 50 g per day and/or with other possible causes of liver injury (the principal causes were serologically proven viral hepatitis, alcoholic liver disease, processes causing obstruction of bile flow and drug overdoses) allows us to focus on a more selected population where other causes of ALI have been discarded.
7 Our findings may be more generalizable to the overall population of patients experiencing an AMI, and are important as they help to resolve the discrepancies in the results between other studies performed over a similar time period in more select patient populations.
An open-label part 3 was added to further evaluate 6 mg kg 1 siltuximab at a more frequent dosage regimen (q2w for six cycles) that would most likely completely neutralise circulating free IL-6 (as indicated by CRP suppression) in a more select patient population (i.e., low risk with Motzer score ⩽1 and CRP levels <30 mg l 1).
Small differences between factors identified previously in MSKCC analyses (Motzer et al, 2002) or more recently Heng et al (2009) and Choueiri et al (2007) in series comprising mixed targeted agents (sunitinib, sorafenib, bevacizumab (Choueiri et al, 2007; Heng et al, 2009), and axitinib (Choueiri et al, 2007)) likely represent a more select patient population and methodological differences.
The results from the present study should therefore not be generalised to unselected patient populations in primary care nor to even more selected surgical populations.
