Workers with worse mental health and more physical role limitations reported more lost hours at work due to presenteeism, as did workers who had ever been treated with a biological therapeutic, who were not satisfied with their work, and those with more work instability.
We found that at-work productivity loss was associated with workers who had poorer mental health, more physical role limitations, were ever treated with a biological therapeutic medication, were not satisfied with their work, and had more work instability (R = 0.50 and R following cross-validation was 0.32).
This is in agreement with Beyth and colleagues' finding [ 6] that patients report poorer perception of health, lower levels of physical functioning and more severe role limitations due to DVT.
The final model (Table 4) shows that participants who experienced worse mental health and more physical role limitations, who had been treated with a biological therapeutic since diagnosis, who were not or only moderately satisfied with their work, and had a higher work instability score experienced more at-work productivity loss.
Other sociodemographic factors were significant predictors for certain SF-36 subscale scores, e.g. older age is associated with lower PF and RE scores (P < 0.01), being married with higher VT (P < 0.05), higher education with less BP (P < 0.05) and being employed with worse GH (P < 0.05) and more emotional role limitations (P < 0.01).
Our results showed that patients with high CSS-SHR score reported significantly more problems with role limitations due to psychical problems and general health than those with low CSS-SHR score, measured with the SF-36.
For the SF-36, patients with high CSS-SHR-scores reported significantly more problems with role limitations due to psychical problems (p < 0.05) and general health (p < 0.02) than the low-scoring group.
Participants who reported having an informal carer were more likely to experience role limitations.
